HER STORY: Andrea Bercovitch — Savoury & Style
“Food isn’t only about what’s on the plate. It’s about the feeling it carries and how it serves the people you love.”
Sometimes Andrea still stops and wonders how she did it. People trusting her with their most special celebrations has always humbled her. Her love of cooking began early — by 13, she was planning her first family dinner party, experimenting with flavors, and learning how to make a meal feel meaningful for the people around her.
In 2011, she left her full-time job to start a catering business, beginning small with pies and desserts. One order led to another, corporate lunches became private parties, and before long, she had a loyal clientele. Intimate gatherings and bridal events — showers, engagements, and pre-wedding breakfasts — became the focus. Many clients were hosting themed events, giving Andrea a creative outlet to design menus that reflected their vision. Her menus were built around party food: bites that feel special even when simple, food that is generous but unfussy.
What set her work apart wasn’t just the recipes. It was the experience. Every detail mattered: the menu cards, the color of skewers, the little touches that matched the invitation. Presentation, care, and intention elevated every dish.
Then came COVID, and everything paused. Like many in hospitality, Andrea had to find her next step. She returned to a long-held passion: photography. Drawn to editorial styling, she explored how a single image can make you look twice. She took courses, practiced at home, and shared recipes on a blog — a way to capture the honesty and beauty of food. That period changed her approach: styling was no longer an afterthought; it became part of the story a dish tells before it’s tasted.
As events gradually returned, business picked up, but Andrea felt a pull. She didn’t want to go back to only what she’d done before. She wanted to combine catering, styling, and teaching into one offering. And so Cook + Style was born: a culinary experience where approachable dishes meet effortless presentation. It is not a class, nor a photoshoot, but the intersection where real food is elevated for the table and the lens.
Andrea’s work is deeply personal. As an adopted person, she has always sought connection to her Greek roots. She draws inspiration from European villages — their stone, patina, markets, and pace. She admires cucina povera: simple ingredients treated with care, platters that overflow, and food served family-style so everyone can dig in. Travel informs her styling choices: a color palette from a doorway, a bowl placed casually on a board, a gesture that feels lived-in but intentional. Cook + Style brings these moments to the table, showing how simple dishes can be styled to feel special with just a few deliberate touches: a tray lined with parchment, a handful of herbs left whole, bread torn instead of sliced, a drizzle of olive oil.
Looking back, Andrea sees a through-line: from carrying pies up a condo elevator to making hundreds of sliders for an engagement party, or styling for a photoshoot, she has always aimed for food that serves the occasion, the guest, and the host. What has changed is the invitation for others to join the process — to learn how she builds menus, presents dishes, and makes every meal feel elevated yet approachable.
Food, for Andrea, is never just about what’s on the plate. It’s about the feeling it carries and how it brings people together. Now she shares her approach openly: teaching, guiding, and inspiring others to make food and hosting feel effortless, beautiful, and memorable.
