Love Note 07

Embracing self-care on Mother's Day is a powerful way to honor yourself, especially if you're a mom who's constantly caring for others. Whether you're a mother, celebrating one, or navigating complex emotions around the day, self-care can provide space for reflection, healing, and renewal.

Here are a few thoughtful ways to embrace self-care this Mother's Day:

Start with Compassion—for Yourself.

Acknowledge the emotional spectrum of Mother’s Day. Give yourself permission to feel whatever comes up—joy, grief, exhaustion, pride, or even indifference.

Create Quiet Moments.

Take time to be alone if you need it. Enjoy a peaceful morning with your favorite tea or coffee, journal your thoughts, or simply sit in silence and breathe.

Do Something That Nourishes You.

  • Take a relaxing bath or do a home spa treatment

  • Go for a walk in nature

  • Read a book that’s just for you

  • Order your favorite food or cook a meal you love

Set Boundaries.

It’s okay to say no to social obligations or traditions that don’t serve your well-being this year. Protect your peace.

Reflect on What You Need.

Ask yourself: What would feel most loving to me today? Then, give yourself permission to prioritize that.

Connect (or Disconnect) Intentionally.

Whether you want to spend time with loved ones or take a break from the world, be intentional about how you engage with others. Let people know what you need.

Simple Self-Care Ideas.

  • Take 10–15 minutes alone with your coffee, tea, or a journal before the day begins.

  • Stretch or do yoga (even a few minutes) to reset your body and mind.

  • Listen to a podcast or audiobook you enjoy—something just for you.

  • Do a mini digital detox: Put your phone away for an hour.

  • Step outside for fresh air, sunshine, or a short walk.

Relaxation & Rest.

  • Uninterrupted bath or shower time with calming music or essential oils.

  • Nap without guilt—resting is productive too.

  • Early bedtime ritual: Light a candle, read something light, sip herbal tea.

  • Delegate or skip chores—the dishes can wait today.

Emotional & Mental Care.

  • Journal about your wins (big or small) as a mom.

  • Speak kindly to yourself—practice affirmations or self-compassion.

  • Schedule a therapy or coaching session, if it’s something you’ve been meaning to do.

  • Create a “joy list”—then do something from it.

  • Go to church and pray.

Creative Outlets.

  • Do a DIY or craft project (even coloring with your kids can count).

  • Cook or bake something you want to, not out of obligation.

  • Start a garden, decorate a space, or rearrange a room just for fun.

  • Scrapbook, paint, write, or play music—reconnect with an old passion.

Connection & Support.

  • Call a friend who fills your cup.

  • Plan a solo outing or a date with yourself—coffee shop, bookstore, museum.

  • Ask for help—let someone else cook, clean, or watch the kids.

  • Join a mom group, in person or online, where you can be seen and heard.
